About Aegean Airlines
Aegean Airlines is Greece's largest airline and has been a member of Star Alliance since 2010. Its hub is Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, with further bases in Thessaloniki and, in summer, on several islands. Olympic Air, part of the group, links smaller islands with turboprop aircraft, and Aegean has repeatedly been named one of the best regional airlines in Europe.
From Germany there are non-stop flights to Athens from airports such as Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf and Berlin, with summer flights from selected cities direct to Thessaloniki and some islands. Frankfurt–Athens takes about three hours and is one of the busiest routes, used by the Greek community in Germany as well as by holidaymakers connecting to Crete, Rhodes, Santorini or Mykonos. Fares range from a hand-luggage-only entry fare to flexible fares with checked baggage and Business Class; what each fare includes is shown during booking.
For the cheapest Aegean ticket, book early for summer, Greek Easter and school holidays; spring, autumn and midweek dates are usually far cheaper. If you are heading to an island, compare a single ticket via Athens with seasonal direct flights, and price outbound and return separately. A Miles+Bonus membership earns miles on every flight. The prices on this page are the current lowest Aegean Airlines fares found by our searches.
Aegean Airlines baggage allowance
Aegean's baggage allowance depends on the fare: the lowest economy fare covers hand luggage only, while the higher fares include checked baggage, and Business Class allows more. The exact size, weight and piece limits are shown while you book and on your ticket.
- Extra baggage: adding it online in advance is cheaper than paying at the airport.
- Connecting flights: on a single ticket via Athens, your bag is normally checked through to your final destination.
- Pushchairs, sports equipment and musical instruments: special rules apply, so check the Aegean website before you fly.
Aegean Airlines check-in
Online and mobile check-in open for a set period before departure, and the boarding pass can be saved in the app. Athens Airport has self-service kiosks and bag-drop points. Flights between Germany and Greece are within the Schengen area, so there is normally no passport control, but you still need a valid passport or ID card. Closing times are listed in your flight details.
Aegean Airlines fleet
Aegean flies the Airbus A320 family, including newer A320neo and A321neo aircraft, while Olympic Air uses turboprops on island routes. European flights have Economy and Business Class, and on-board service depends on the route and fare.
