Antalya Beyond the Hotel Beach: Old Town, Waterfalls and Coves

·Involatus Redaktion
Antalya coastline with turquoise sea and mountains in the background

Most holidaymakers only see the road from the airport to the hotel. Yet the region's most interesting side is right on the doorstep.

Kaleiçi: the old town

Narrow lanes, Ottoman wooden houses and a Roman harbour: explore Kaleiçi in the late afternoon, once the heat eases. Hadrian's Gate is the classic starting point.

Nature close to the city

  • Lower Düden Falls – plunging straight into the sea
  • Kurşunlu Waterfall – a shady nature park, ideal in summer
  • Olympos and Çıralı – ancient ruins right on the beach

Best time to travel

May, June, September and October offer warm swimming weather without peak summer prices. Book early and flights in this period are often much cheaper.

Tip: A tram runs from Antalya Airport (AYT) to the city centre – a cheap alternative to a taxi.
