About Turkish Airlines
Turkish Airlines (THY) was founded in 1933, is Turkey's flag carrier and has been a Star Alliance member since 2008. Its hub is Istanbul Airport, opened in 2019, and no other airline flies to more countries: the network covers well over 300 destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Istanbul is also the gateway between Europe and every corner of Turkey, so passengers from Germany connect on one ticket to any Anatolian city, from Trabzon to Gaziantep.
From Germany there are regular services to Istanbul from Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Cologne, Hanover, Nuremberg, Leipzig and Bremen, plus seasonal non-stop flights to selected Anatolian cities. Economy tickets are sold as EcoFly, ExtraFly and PrimeFly bundles: the lowest-priced EcoFly usually includes a checked bag and a hot meal on international routes, while the higher bundles add seat selection, extra miles and more flexibility. Business Class and a stopover programme with free hotel nights in Istanbul on long connections are further Turkish Airlines hallmarks.
To find the cheapest Turkish Airlines ticket, book early, try midweek dates and compare connections via Istanbul with non-stop flights, as the connecting fare is sometimes clearly lower. A free Miles&Smiles membership earns miles on every flight that you can spend on award tickets and upgrades. The prices on this page are the current lowest Turkish Airlines fares found by our searches.
Turkish Airlines baggage allowance
Turkish Airlines sets the baggage allowance by bundle and route: Europe–Turkey economy tickets usually include one checked bag and one piece of cabin baggage, and Business Class allows more. The exact weight or piece limits are shown while you book and on your ticket.
- Extra baggage: buying it online before the flight is cheaper than the airport rate.
- Infant, sports and musical equipment: special rules apply, so check the Turkish Airlines website in advance.
Turkish Airlines check-in
Online and mobile check-in open the day before departure; the boarding pass can be saved in the app or your wallet. Self-service kiosks and bag-drop counters are available at the airport, and at large hubs such as Istanbul Airport you should allow plenty of time for security and passport control. Closing times vary by route and are listed in your flight details.
Turkish Airlines fleet
Turkish Airlines operates one of the world's largest and youngest fleets: Airbus A321neo and Boeing 737 family aircraft on short and medium routes, plus A330, A350-900, Boeing 777-300ER and 787-9 widebodies for long haul. Europe–Turkey flights are mostly flown with narrow-body jets, with complimentary catering in economy and personal screens on selected aircraft.
