Düsseldorf Airport: Cheap Flights, Transport and Terminals

Düsseldorf Airport lies only 7 kilometres from the city centre and is the largest airport of the Rhine-Ruhr region and one of the busiest in Germany. As the gateway to North Rhine-Westphalia, home to millions of people with Turkish roots, it is among the German airports with the most departures to Turkey. All flights are handled in Terminals A, B and C under one roof, with Turkey and Tunisia flights mostly leaving from the non-Schengen areas.

The airport is Eurowings' largest base, and Lufthansa, Condor, Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, SunExpress, AJet, Corendon, Nouvelair and Tunisair fly from here too. Non-stop flights to Turkey serve Istanbul Airport, Sabiha Gökçen, Antalya, Izmir, Ankara, Adana, Dalaman, Bodrum, Gaziantep, Kayseri, Samsun and Trabzon; Monastir, Tunis and Djerba in Tunisia as well as Pristina, Athens and Hurghada are further busy routes.

For the cheapest flights from Düsseldorf, compare the low-cost carriers Pegasus, AJet and SunExpress, try midweek and off-season dates and book early for the summer holidays and religious festivals. Including nearby Cologne/Bonn, Dortmund and Weeze in your search sometimes makes a clear difference, and as tickets are priced one way, try outbound and return separately. The prices on this page are the current lowest Düsseldorf fares found by our searches.

From the S-Bahn station beneath the terminal, line S11 runs to Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof and on to Cologne, while the SkyTrain suspended railway links the terminal with Düsseldorf Flughafen long-distance station, where ICE and regional trains stop. Rheinbahn buses serve the city centre and surrounding districts. Timetables and fares change, so check the airport website for current details.

• Taxi: ranks are in front of arrivals; the ride to the centre takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
• Car: the A44 motorway passes right by the airport and connects with the A3, A52 and A57; car-hire desks are in arrivals.
• Ruhr region: Essen, Duisburg, Dortmund and Cologne are reached directly by train and S-Bahn.

The terminals offer duty-free and a wide range of shops, restaurants, cafés, currency exchange, ATMs, a pharmacy and children's play areas; Wi-Fi is free. Besides the Lufthansa lounges, the Hugo Junkers Lounge and the Open Sky Lounge can be used for a fee. Hotels are within walking distance of the terminal, and travel agency and transfer desks are located in arrivals.

The multi-storey car parks next to the terminals serve short stays, while the open-air and covered areas around the airport cover long-term parking; shuttles run from the budget long-term car parks to the terminal. Booking online is considerably cheaper; current rates are listed on the airport website.
